Once boasting a population of 2,500 inhabitants, Pfaffenthal witnessed a decline in popularity during the 19th century when the fortress was dismantled, leading to the neighborhood’s abandonment. In 2022, less than 1% of the population of Luxembourg city lived in this district. Since the elevator connecting it to the upper parts of the city was put into service in 2017, Pfaffenthal has experienced a new boom. Located in the Alzette valley, the neighborhood has become much more accessible by foot and by bike.

Check out this place on Google streetview from 2019 after the construction of the elevator.

I haven’t taken a recent photo from that place yet. It is, the Rue Laurent Ménager, between the Eich Gate and the rue du Pont. In the Pfaffenthal quarter.
